The 1796 Ten dollar gold eagle is part of a series of Draped bust gold eagle coins struck from 1795-1797. Struck in Philadelphia and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 91.67% gold; 8.33% silver & copper from a mintage of 4,146 struck.
Obverse: Liberty with cap, facing right, surrounded by 15 stars and the word LIBERTY around the periphery. The date is centered at the bottom.
Reverse: A small eagle is centered holding a wreath in its beak, over its head, and an olive branch in its talons. UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is written around the periphery.
