The 1889 One dollar is part of a series of Morgan silver dollar coins struck from 1878-1921. The specific variety is Obverse Clashed Die. Struck in Philadelphia and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper from a mintage of 7 Known struck and has a rarity rating of 7.
The IN of IN GOD WE TRUST shows clear evidence of a clashed die just beneath Liberty’s jaw at her neck. As of March 2024, fewer than 10 examples have been verified (seven specimens, all told). Of three Mint State examples, a PCGS MS-63 is the finest. An AU-55 sale has been confirmed at $26,000. Finding one of these will definitely make your day. Happy hunting!
