Greysheet Catalog Details (GSID: 10332)

The 1938 Half dollar is part of a series of Classic Commemorative coins struck from 1892-1954. The specific variety is New Rochelle. Struck in Philadelphia and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of 90% silver; 10% copper from a mintage of 15,266 struck.
The 1938 New Rochelle half dollar, dated 1938, marks the 250th anniversary of the New York community's settlement in 1688. However, this coin was struck in 1937, a year before its stated date of issue. Such discrepancies between dates of production for certain coins versus the dates seen on those pieces were common in the high-flying days of the traditional commemorative series in the mid 1930s. This attractive coin, designed by Gertrude K. Lathrop, features an obverse motif of a settler handling a calve, and the reverse showcases a fleur-dis-lis, or flower of the lily.

The vast majority of specimens on the marketplace are known in nice uncirculated grades of MS64 to MS66, with many available in MS67. Pieces grading higher are rare. Most are well struck and offer excellent luster and nice overall eye appeal.

About CDN Prices

All CDN prices are based on proprietary market knowledge and technology developed by CDN Publishing, LLC.

CPG® prices represent retail levels. Collectors should refer to CPG values as a starting place for their negotiations, or auction bid reference.

Greysheet/Greensheet prices are wholesale market levels for collectible coins/paper money intended to indicate what a dealer, or wholesale, buyer would pay for the described item in the specified grade. Greysheet/Greensheet represent "sight-seen" values based on a buyer's in-hand review. The actual value can be more or less than this depending on factors including eye appeal and market timing.

Bluesheet (NGC & PCGS) prices represent the highest sight-unseen offers to buy on dealer networks like CDN Exchange. In many cases, there are no active sight-unseen buy offers, so CDN looks to the recent lowest market values for such an item. For this reason, Bluesheet values typically represent the floor of the market for the specified item. CDN only tracks Bluesheet on certain items.

CAC prices are for U.S. coins that meet the standards of the Certified Acceptance Corporation. You can learn more about CAC on their web site.
