Catalog Notes: The 1938 Texas halves represent the last year of this commemorative type, first issued in 1934 to honor the centennial of Texas independence from Mexico in 1836. This popular coin was designed by Pompeo Coppini and includes a variety of design elements, including an eagle and five-pointed star on the obverse and on the reverse images of the goddess Victory, the Alamo, and small bust portraits of Texas founders Sam Houston and Stephen Austin.

Issued for $2 apiece or for $6 in the three-piece set including the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco issues, 1938 Texas half dollars are somewhat scarcer than any of the preceding Texas halves made since 1934. However, the vast majority of 1938 Texas half dollars are in nice uncirculated grades ranging from MS62 through MS66. Examples grading MS67 are scarce, while only a handful of specimens are known in MS68 or higher grades, and these quite rare.
About CDN Prices:
CPG® prices represent retail levels. Collectors should refer to CPG values as a starting place for their negotiations, or auction bid reference.
Greysheet/Greensheet prices are wholesale market levels for collectible coins/paper money intended to indicate what a dealer, or wholesale, buyer would pay for the described item in the specified grade. Greysheet/Greensheet represent "sight-seen" values based on a buyer's in-hand review. The actual value can be more or less than this depending on factors including eye appeal and market timing.
Bluesheet (NGC & PCGS) prices represent the highest sight-unseen offers to buy on dealer networks like CDN Exchange. In many cases, there are no active sight-unseen buy offers, so CDN looks to the recent lowest market values for such an item. For this reason, Bluesheet values typically represent the floor of the market for the specified item. CDN only tracks Bluesheet on certain items.
CAC prices are for U.S. coins that meet the standards of the Certified Acceptance Corporation. You can learn more about CAC on their web site.
