The 2017-D Cent is part of a series of Lincoln obverse; Shield reverse coins struck from 2010-Present. The specific variety is Shield. Struck in Denver and designated as a Business (MS) strike, this coin is made of Copper plated zinc from a mintage of 4,272,800,000 struck.
The "Union Shield" theme was first issued this design in 2010. The obverse (heads) shows the image of President Abraham Lincoln used on the penny since 1909. The shield on the reverse (tails) represents Lincoln's preservation of the United States as a single country.
Obverse: Bust of Abraham Lincoln framed by IN GOD WE TRUST on the top periphery. The word LIBERTY to the left of the portrait and the date positioned on the right side.
Reverse: A shield with the words E PLURIBUS UNUM is centered with the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the top periphery and ONE cent in a ribbon across the shield.
