The 1873 Three dollar gold is part of a series of Princess head coins struck from 1854-1889. Struck in Philadelphia and designated as a Proof (PR) strike, this coin is made of 90% gold; 10% copper from a mintage of Unknown struck.
Obverse: The head of an Indian (Native Aamerican) princess with acrown of feathers atop her head. The words UNITED STATES OF AMERICAN circle the periphery from 7 o'clock to 5 o'clock.
Reverse: A traditional wreath of tobacco, corn, wheat and cotton frames the reverse with a large numeral 3 and DOLLARS centered. The date of the issue appears under the denomination and mint-mark (if any) appears centered under the wreath at 6 o'clock.
