Banknote Book & CPG® PRICE GUIDE

About This Series

The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Tesorerías de la Nación series of Mexico in the World Currency contains 3 distinct entries with CPG® values between $300.00 and $1,200.00.
The congressional republican minority was not happy with Emperor Iturbide. Responding to a coup plot, on 31 October 1822 Iturbide closed congress, then days later created a new legislative junta loyal to him. Opposition to Iturbide grew, so he reconvened congress on 19 March 1823 for the purpose of abdicating his throne. Instead, congress nullified its own election of Iturbide. However, this did nothing to address the poor economic conditions, leading the Tesorerías de la Nación (Treasury of the Nation, TRE) to replace the imperial notes with its own so-called “republican” notes per congressional decree of 11 April 1823.
