Austria: Spring is in the Air with the Latest Coins Featuring the Easter Bunny and Picturesque Woodland
The Austrian Mint launches their Easter coins for 2024.
The Austrian Mint have launched their annual commemorative Easter coins which since their initial release in 2002 has become a firm favourite with collectors and gift-givers. For 2024, the design and theme focuses on the desire to leave winter behind and eagerly walking towards spring time and the warmth of the sun. Entitled Getting There, the arrival of spring and Easter make many of us more receptive to the beauty of nature with each step. Walking is so good for us, and after a long chilly winter the beginning of this season motivates many to set off on a spring stroll to nurture the soul. The simple task of walking is not only measured by where it leads us, it energises both body and mind, and gives gentle purpose to many of us who are encouraged to ‘stop and smell the roses’ during our daily, hectic lives. We may not always know exactly where a leisurely walk through the countryside or a nature trail will take us, but ultimately we get there & back in the end, feeling more fulfilled and content.

The obverse side of these nine-sided coins are designed by Helmut Andexlinger, Anna Schlindner and Rebecca Wilding who focus on the winding pathway leading its way up to the picturesque Falkenstein church, which is built into the rock in woodland near St Wolfgang in the Salzkammergut region of central Austria. Above and to the left are two robins perching on a branch while just to the lower right, a rabbit – symbolic of Easter is seen peeking out of its burrow. The year of issue 2024 is placed to the lower right near the rim. The reverse of the coin shows the coats of arms of all nine of the provinces of Austria along with the denomination of 5 EURO with the numeral centred.
