The international football competition is held every four years and brings together the best football teams on the planet to name an ultimate winner. Enthusiastically cheered by billions of spectators from all over the world, football has established itself literally as the world's most popular sport. Conquering entire nations, the sport itself has no fewer than two hundred million licensed players around the world.

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association was founded on the 21st May 1904, FIFA is responsible for managing and developing football throughout the world. The first tournament for the FIFA cup took place in France in 1928, welcoming all the various national football federations recognised by FIFA. For the first time ever in its organisation, the 2026 tournament will take place in three different countries - Canada, the United States and Mexico. Sure to offer a great diversity of stadiums, culture and atmosphere for fans as never before experienced, it is also the first time that the tournament will include 48 teams instead of 32, increasing the number of matches and opportunities for more nations to compete. The first matches will kick-off at iconic Estadio Azteca Mexico City in less than one year’s time on Thursday, 11th June 2026 – and FIFA’s World Cup 26 final is scheduled for Sunday, 19th July 2026 in New York. In between, there will be 104 matches in 16 state-of-the-art stadiums across Canada, Mexico and the USA.

Designs are shared on both gold and silver options. On the obverse, shown is a football player with his back to us, kicking a ball. He is about to shoot into a backdrop of emblematic buildings from the three host countries of the FIFA 26 World Cup - Canada, Mexico and the United States. To his left are the CN Tower and Rogers Centre Stadium from Toronto with two elements of the city’s skyline. Chichén Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, located in Yucatán, Mexico is centred. On the right is New York's famous Statue of Liberty. The official inscription FIFA WORLD CUP 26 is placed along the left rim in stylised text and the word FOOTBALL is shown in a linear text at different levels. On the reverse is the official trophy which is super-imposed over the official slogan which reads WE ARE 26 designed in a vertical format.  The denominations and the mintmarks of the Monnaie e Paris are shown on the left and the initials RF (Republique Francaise) are placed on the right. Just below the base of the FIFA trophy is the year of issue, 2025. The €500 Gold 5 ounce coin will be struck using a reverse proof process. The relief areas are polished and the background field is shown with a precision frosted finish.
