As you read this, you hold in your hands the final issue of the CDN Quarterly newsletter. Inaugurated in January 1992, some subscribers may recall that the first two issues, Quarterly I and Quarterly II were sent out together, with the first Quarterly III coming that March. It was a major accomplishment, because with these publications CDN now covered all regular issue United States coins. In that January 1992 issue silver spot was $4.15 and gold spot was $354.

The format of the Quarterly issues remained largely unchanged over the years, until late 2015 when we began the long-needed process of adding varieties. The Quarterlies cover all of the early U.S. coin series, which have a tremendous amount of important and widely-collected die varieties that were not previously priced. We started with half cents and large cents, then expanded into early dimes, bust quarters, and perhaps our largest expansion, capped bust halves. We then addressed early dollars.

Our next goal was to add pricing in grades that were not previously priced. Much like the reasoning for adding varieties, many early coin series trade in the split grades such as XF45, AU55, AU58, MS61, and MS62 more often than the 20th century series. Now as we transition into the new Monthly Greysheet, we are excited that we have pricing for these series nearly complete across all numeric grades from Very Good through Gem Uncirculated. Using a combination of our printed sheet, our mobile app, and our online price guide at www.coinprices.com gives you all this information at your fingertips.

Pricing updates in this final issue include an extensive review of Colonial coin pricing. With the help of leading experts in the field, we have also expanded the amount of coins covered with more than 30 new listings that can be found now online. It is important to read the disclaimer that accompany these prices. We have also extensively reviewed half cents, a difficult series that includes some extreme condition rarities. Much of the movement is upwards, as the demand for these small copper pieces is unrelenting. One date that stood out was the 1850 which has been producing some eye-opening results. We have added pricing for this series as well, visit our online price guide to see prices in XF45, AU53, AU55, MS61, and MS62. For the late date Braided Hair type, we have added MS65RB prices. In addition, we have added pricing in half dimes, bust and Liberty Seated dimes. We will be adding multiple grades for Seated quarters in the coming weeks.
