One of the more complicated series of modern world paper money, the West African States series contains a myriad of date and signature combinations, many of which are very scarce. These banknotes are a common currency for eight African nations which form the West African Monetary Union. The notes are issued by Banque Centrale des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (Central Bank of the West African States, BCEAO).

The updated pricing will assist collectors and dealers identify the scarcer notes. Until this extensive pricing revision, many of the rare signature and date varieties were only known by specialist collectors; they are now available to all Banknote Book subscribers.
