The G.L. Hermann Numismatic Collection Featured in June 2025 Showcase Auction
Every federal gold denomination is represented, from dollars through double eagles.
Stack’s Bowers Galleries is honored to present selections from the G.L. Hermann Collection as a highlight of their June 2025 Showcase Auction. Featured are nearly 200 coins with a focus on branch mint and key-date Liberty Head gold coins, including many Charolette, Dahlonega, and Carson City issues. Every federal gold denomination is represented, from dollars through double eagles, and there are rarities from each design type to entice discerning collectors. This offering is highlighted by a magnificent 1858-D half eagle graded AU-58 (PCGS) and a charming 1838 eagle graded EF-40 (PCGS) and approved by CMQ, as well as many other rarities. Also included is a remarkable selection of silver dollars that spans the Draped Bust through Peace design types, with a lustrous MS-62 (PCGS) 1860-O Liberty Seated dollar as the standout in this category.
Mr. Hermann spent most of his life in the nation’s capital, serving in the armed forces and building a career as an accounting specialist and financial analyst in various governmental agencies, pursuing the development of the centralized medical records system still used today in the health care industry. The National Capital region provided a rich and constant source of history and inspiration. He was a frequent visitor to the Smithsonian’s National Numismatic Collection and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, enjoying the inspiring collection and the close up view of paper money and coins being created.
Mr. Hermann set out to acquire coins slowly and with great care, choosing them for their historical background, artistic beauty, rarity, and value as a safe haven investment; his goal was collecting complete groups of various coins from specific mints.
For 60 years, he was a steady and frequent patron of national and international numismatic dealers, professional organizations. auctions, and coin shows. He believed that while someone could acquire coins, they are never truly “owned” by the collector. Rather, they remain in the hands of a guardian for a time, and then go on to other safe keepers throughout history. Stack’s Bowers Galleries is honored to present this portion of the G.L. Hermann Collection to the next generation of guardians as part of their June 2025 Showcase Auction.
