John Brush Of David Lawrence Rare Coins Talks About Ultra Rarities & The Hansen Collection

It’s one thing to talk about rare coins, and it’s another to actually handle them. Yet, John Brush, President of David Lawrence Rare Coins (DLRC) in Virginia Beach does both in a recent interview we at the CDN team taped during the ANA World’s Fair of Money Show in Philadelphia last month.

John Brush of David Lawrence Rare Coins

It’s one thing to talk about rare coins, and it’s another to actually handle them. Yet, John Brush, President of David Lawrence Rare Coins (DLRC) in Virginia Beach does both in a recent interview we at the CDN team taped during the ANA World’s Fair of Money Show in Philadelphia last month. Brush is a busy guy, and he has been especially busy lately helping famous coin collector Dell Loy Hansen assemble a coin collection billed as the most complete cabinet of United States coins ever assembled, even topping the legendary collection built during the 20th century by numismatic luminary Louis Eliasberg.

Fellow CDN editor Patrick Ian Perez and I sat down with Brush for a sizzling 10-minute conversation about some of the rare coins that he and the DLRC team had recently acquired for the Hansen collection. We took photos of the coins, but – my gosh – photos don’t do justice for some of the coins that Brush talked about and showed us during the interview.

We’re sure you’ll have as much fun listening to Brush tell stories about some of the great coins he and his team have purchased, including several highlights like a 1901-S PCGS MS68+ Barber quarter that is absolutely incredible. So beautiful is this coin that it became the first coin PCGS ever put a plus symbol on! Brush also discusses the amazing Bruce Morelan collection of Liberty Seated dollars (all boasting Certified Acceptance Corporation — CAC — by the way), and a PCGS PR64+DCAM 1854 Type II gold dollar. There’s a funny story how its former owner bought the coin at auction… Let’s just say he “struck a pose.”

We’re sure you’ll have fun with this interview. And if you want to check out some of the awesome coins available for sale by DLRC, be sure to check out their website and jump in on one of their auctions featuring a wide variety of coins.
