The United States Mint has selected 37 American artists to participate in its Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) to create and submit new designs for coins and medals.
The pattern is now thought not to exist. Although it has been widely published that 18 originals were struck in 1836, no coin from an uncracked original reverse die has been located. It is presumed that all were issued at a later date, probably commencing circa 1859.
