The Commission of Fine Arts met on September 17 with two items from the U.S. Mint leading the agenda.
Commissioners reviewed reverse designs for the four American Innovation dollars scheduled to be released in 2028. The coins will honor innovations from Colorado, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Themes for the coins are:
- Colorado – Pueblo chile
- Nebraska – crop irrigation
- North Dakota – Unmanned aviation
- South Dakota – Saving the American buffalo
Each reverse approved by the CFA was the preferential design of the respective state officials.
Commissioners also reviewed obverse and reverse designs for the 2027 issues in the Comic Art Coin and Medal Program. The 2027 issues feature Aquaman, Batgirl and The Flash and will mark the final year of the three-year program.
