It is likely that the planchet itself was perforated with a circular hole prior to striking, then during the striking process, the metal movement caused the edges of the perforation to become irregular in shape. • J-119, J-121, and J-123 are perforated. • J-120, J-122, and J-124 are unperforated.

While reviewing the initial results in various categories of recent auctions, my initial take is that the sales were moderate to strong.
More than 300 lots, consisting of high quality Walking Liberty half dollars from the Mack C. Chase Collection are set to cross the auction block as part of Stack's Bowers Galleries' November Showcase Auction, the official auction of the Whitman Expo.
