The United States Mint has selected 37 American artists to participate in its Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) to create and submit new designs for coins and medals.
1879 “Washlady” Quarter Dollar. The reverse of this and the preceding are loosely styled after certain pattern eagles found on 1879 gold denominations. The Washlady name dates to the April 1891 Doughty sale.
Obverse Description
Charles E. Barber’s Society Lady (popularly called Washlady) design. IN GOD WE TRUST above, seven stars left, six stars right, date 1879 below.
Reverse Description
Perched eagle holding olive branch (with seven leaves) and three arrows (passing behind the wing). E PLURIBUS UNUM in arc above. Around border, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA / QUAR DOLLAR.
