Newly discovered 1867-S Half Eagle also shatters previous auction record in $10.665 million U.S. coins event; 1934 $10,000 Federal Reserve Note Leads $8.7 million U.S. currency auction.
The 1936-S is somewhat of an underrated date among San Francisco minted Walking Liberty Half Dollars from this year forward. The 1937-S gets more attention but the 1936-S is actually the tougher date. It is common up to and including MS64 and only slightly scarce in MS65 and MS66. MS67 is the finest grade and is scarce but examples are not hard to come across. Overall, the issue is very attractive with strong luster and an average strike.
