The United States Mint has selected 37 American artists to participate in its Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) to create and submit new designs for coins and medals.
The Native American $1 Coin program honors and recognizes the important contributions made by Indian tribes and individual Native Americans.
Obverse Description
Portrait of Sacagawea with child in a papoose with the motto IN GOD WE TRUST in the left field. LIBERTY centered at the top. The date and mint mark are located on the edge (rim).
Reverse Description
The reverse (tails) design portrays Polly Cooper holding a basket as she shares the Oneidas’ gift of corn with General Washington, who holds his hat in an expression of gratitude and respect. The design represents the generosity, courage, and sacrifice of the Oneida during the American Revolutionary War.
