On nine occasions in the 20th century, the Denver Mint produced fewer than one million coins in a certain year and denomination.
The obverse dies were changed in 1886 making 2 separate varieties that are differentiated by the placement of 'America.' These two varieties are worth about the same; but, it is common knowledge that Variety 2 is slightly more scarce. All the color designations increase gradually from brown to red with all gems being very scarce. Cameo examples are quite rare. Look for attractively toned brown pieces or blazing red surfaces as those are the most coveted and are not too hard to find.
Obverse Description

Reverse Description
