This year Japan and in particular, the city of Osaka will welcome visitors from around the World from the 13th April until the 13th October. It is the third time Japan will have hosted these international events, the two previous being Expo 1970 also in Osaka and Expo 2005 in Aichi.

The EXPO venue is located in Yumeshima, an artificial island of 155 hectares on the waterfront in Osaka and is scheduled to be completed in April 2025. Centred around eight key themes, a variety of thematic projects are planned within the Expo, each located in their own signature pavilions. To date, 153 countries / territories have confirmed their participation in EXPO 25 and the organisers are expecting more than 28 million visitors during the six-month event.

This is a special coin set including six brilliant uncirculated coins of Japan as well as an Expo 2025 Osaka 500 Yen bi-metallic clad commemorative coin. Aside from the commemorative coin, the set consists of the six currently circulating coins from an additional 500 yen bi-metallic clad coin, a 100 yen cupronickel coin, a 50 yen cupronickel coin, a 10 yen bronze coin, a 5 yen brass coin and a 1 yen aluminium coin.

The obverse side of the commemorative 500 yen coin features an image of the EXPO’s mascot, Myaku-Myaku which is described as a shape-shifting monster. The standing motif is off-centre to the left and includes Japanese characters denoting the denomination and issuer to the lower right. The reverse side includes elements of the mascot’s shape centred along with the logo of the EXPO25 shown in western lettering.
