About This Series

The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Hawaii Plantation Tokens series of Hawaii Territory in the U.S. Coins contains 15 distinct entries with CPG® values between $845.00 and $27,600.00.
During the 19th century, several private firms issues tokens for use as money in the Hawaiian company stores. These are often referred to as Plantation tokens. The unusual denomination of 12-1/2 cents was equivalent to a day's wages in the sugar plantations, and was related to the fractional part of the Spanish eight-reales coin.
