About This Series

The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Issue of September 1, 1775 James River Bank series of Virginia Colonial Currency in the U.S. Currency contains 7 distinct entries with CPG® values between $358.00 and $5,000.00.
After the supply of paper for both the small notes and the large Ashby notes was exhausted, the supply of James River Bank forms which had not been used for the April 1, 1773 issue were filled in to complete the emission authorized under the July 17, 1775 Ordinance. Inapplicable words were not eliminated by being enclosed within parentheses, as had been done in the April 1, 1773 issue. The backs were left blank, but some note forms had printed backs left over from the printing of backs for the April 1, 1773 issue and were used. Signers were B. Dandridge, Philip Johnson, Robert Carter Nicholas, William Norvell, and Josiah Parker. Spoilage was deducted from printed amounts to determine the number issued.
