Banknote Book & CPG® PRICE GUIDE

About This Series

The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Banque de la Nouvelle-Calédonie series of New Caledonia in the World Currency contains 9 distinct entries with CPG® values between $1,000.00 and $2,000.00.
On 14 July 1874, the Compagnie de la Nouvelle Calédonie Banque was renamed the Banque de la Nouvelle-Calédonie (Bank of New Caledonia, BNC), and its capital was raised to 4,000,000 francs. New Caledonia’s disappointing nickel exports to Europe caused the bank’s notes to be discounted, leading to a loss of confidence in the bank and support of the government. The bank ceased making payments on 16 October 1877, and was declared bankrupt on 27 November 1877.
