S-B SKIPS EVENT IN FAVOR OF SUMMER ANA
The coin community moves on from the Summer FUN show in Orlando to the Whitman Baltimore Expo this week. The summer edition of this show is a chance for collectors to combine a mid-Atlantic vacation along with some coin buying. There is no Stacks-Bowers auction at this show, as they prepare for their expansive ANA World’s Fair of Money sale next month. However, a lesser known entity, Richard Opfer Auctioneering, Inc. will be conducting a rare coin auction on Thursday the 14th in Timonium, Maryland, about 15 miles
away from the Baltimore show. This sale consists of 101 lots of various U.S. coins including classic commemoratives, small cents, Walking Liberty halves, and a fair amount of Indian gold. Of the 101 coins and medal, 36 of them are CAC stickered, a relatively high percentage. A portion of the gold coinage boasts MS66 and MS67 grades, with a 1907 Saint-Gaudens graded PCGS/CAC MS66+, a 1916-S $10 graded PCGS MS66, and a 1913 $2.50 graded PCGS MS66. Among the Walker highlights are a 1927-S in PCGS MS66, a PCGS/CAC Gem 1918-D, a Gem 1917-S Obverse graded by PCGS/CAC, and a 1940 graded PCGS MS68. Lastly, a Pan-Pac $50 Octagonal in a PCGS MS64 holder will be sold.

SILVER GLITTERS BETTER THAN GOLD
It’s no secret that precious metals have benefited for multiple reasons of late, especially on news of the Brexit. Silver has outperformed them all. Our June 10 issue posted a spot price of $16.03 per ounce. Today we go to press at $19.70 – an impressive gain of 22.8% in approximately 30 days! Gold and platinum are both up 12% over the same time period.

METALS MARKETS LIFT RARE COIN SALES
The recent surge in precious metals has been beneficial to rare coin dealers who report that activity is better than last year at this time. Increased interest in gold and silver typically translate to better activity at coin shops, shows and online activity.

THIS WEEKS MARKET
Gold Type: Generic gold continues to shine as the spot gold price continues to increase, which incidentally also leads to tighter premiums for many lower grade coins.
Morgan Dollars: Recent transaction data is reflected in this series this week. Be sure to read our comments on this series in this week’s Bluesheet.
