Greysheet: SPECIAL EDITION: ANA NATIONAL MONEY SHOW

by CDN Publishing | Published on March 2, 2016

The American Numismatic Association National Money Show gets underway this week in Dallas at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. This well-known show features upwards of 500 dealers on the bourse floor and is open to the public from Thursday, March 3rd through
Saturday the 5th. As with all ANA conventions, education is an important component and there are numerous seminars one can partake in. Throughout the course of the show there are 15 different topics being presented as part of the “Money Talks” series. These free presentations are only 30-45 minutes each and are an excellent way to take a rest from the bourse floor and listen and learn about something new.

Also a fixture at ANA shows is the Museum Showcase which features iconic items from the ANA Money Museum. Coins on display include one of the five 1913 nickels, 1907 $20 Ultra High Relief, and a 1943 bronze Lincoln cent. Lastly, a class III 1804 dollar will be on display, and every coin collector – no matter how casual – should view an 1804 dollar at least once in their lifetime.

Heritage Auctions (www.ha.com) is conducting the official auction in conjunction with the Dallas show, with three live floor sessions and one online-only session and over 2,600 lots of U.S. coinage.

Goldberg Coins & Collectibles recently announced the auction of an incredible selection of “just under 100″ gold coins that have been off the market in the same collection for more than fifty years. The coins are of amazing quality, with a complete date run of $5 and $10 Indian gold. The 1933 $10 has been certified MS66 by PCGS (joining just 2 others at that level), and many other key dates have been graded MS65 or MS65+. Double Eagles in this collection include an 1851-O in MS63, making it tied for finest known of this famous New Orleans date.

THIS WEEK’S MARKET
Gold Type: Double eagles in the circulated grades see increased premiums this week, as gold spot maintains is recent strength. In addition to this, higher bids for Very Choice and Gem Saints have been observed on CoinPlex.
Walkers: We see continued strength in early Walkers — one of the bright spots among 19th and 20th century silver issues.
Mint & Proof Sets: We continue to fine tune the prices for this important market segment. One item we wanted to bring reader’s attention to is the addition last week of prices for the Limited Edition Silver Proof sets, as these items have proven to be popular with collectors.
