MARKHAM, Ontario, July 26, 2021 – Long-time money collector and avid numismatist Steve Woodland assumed the presidency of the Royal Canadian Numismatic Association (RCNA) on July 24, 2021.

“It is a position I have aspired to since I joined the RCNA over 15 years ago,” said Woodland.

A 38-year veteran of the Canadian Army Signal Corps, Woodland runs his own project management consulting company and holds a degree in Nuclear Engineering from the Royal Military College of Canada. As such, he brings a proven and valuable skillset of leadership, team building, contract negotiation, financial stewardship, and communications expertise.

Woodland is a life member of the RCNA, a founding member of the Newfoundland Numismatic Enthusiasts, and a current member of several other clubs. He has served the numismatic community in various executive-level positions in the RCNA, as 2nd vice-president and director of club services of the Ontario Numismatic Association, and as president of the Ottawa Numismatic Society since 2009.

Woodland also brings a vision: to make the RCNA the premier numismatic organization in Canada, serving both its members and all Canadians, believing that the RCNA should be the first stop for anyone in Canada who has a question, or desires to learn more, about money collecting or numismatics.

“To achieve this, we need to focus on three pillars,” said Woodland, “leadership, membership, and stewardship.”

For leadership, Woodland believes that a united RCNA Board, comprised of a knowledgeable and competent cadre of directors and officers, will provide clear and transparent direction.

As to membership, Woodland envisages enhancing the existing member services and benefits and adding new ones to improve recruitment and retention.

Finally, good stewardship can only be achieved through transparent and diligent planning and oversight of all RCNA activities and operations to ensure a stable revenue stream and sustainable expenses.

“I look forward to working with every member and with a group of passionate and talented individuals to benefit the RCNA,” concluded Woodland.
