2024-M S€10 Silver, Square, Velázquez, Spinners, Colorized PR DCAM

To mark the 425th anniversary of the birth of Diego Velázquez (Seville, 1599 – Madrid, 1660), court painter to Philip IV and one of the great masters of universal painting, the Royal Spanish Mint issues five coins reproducing masterpieces held at the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid and The National Gallery in London.

The series brings together three square 1 oz silver coins, a silver Cincuentín and a gold 8-escudos piece, all struck in proof quality and framed by a border evoking the filigree of the Baroque.

Obverse Description

In color, “Las hilanderas” (1655–1660), Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid: a tapestry workshop that hides the mythological fable of Arachne and Pallas.

Reverse Description

The monument to Diego Velázquez by the Sevillian sculptor Antonio Susillo, in the Plaza del Duque de la Victoria, Seville, with the legend 425 ANIVERSARIO.
