The Reserve Bank Act 1959 created the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) to carry on the central banking functions of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia; at that same time, the commercial and savings banking functions were transferred into a new institution, the Commonwealth Banking Corporation.
