Greysheet Catalog Details
In 1912, Comoros (a French protectorate since 1886) became a province of Madagascar, a neighboring French colony. In 1945, Comoros became a separate French territory. Following this split, the Banque de Madagascar changed its name to the Banque de Madagascar et des Comores (Bank of Madagascar and the Comoros, BMC). On 26 December 1945, the Madagascar-Comores franc was established and its value was fixed at 1.7 French francs. Old Madagascar coins and banknotes continued to circulate in parallel with this new currency.
