About This Series

The Greysheet Catalog (GSID) of the Republika Slovenija series of Slovenia in the World Currency contains 42 distinct entries with CPG® values between $0.50 and $350.00.
Shortly before independence and the establishment of the Slovenian National Bank, both on 25 June 1991, private individuals in Ljubljana printed 1-lipa notes for use in Ljubljana and Maribor. These unofficial notes circulated briefly and were accepted by some businesses, but were never legal tender even though they bear the name Banka Slovenija, an institution which did not exist at the time. Following independence, parliament considered naming the nation’s new currency the lipa, but chose tolar instead. After the introduction of the official tolar notes, the unofficial lipa notes ceased to circulate. They are listed here without catalog numbers to alert buyers to their existence.
