New coins from Austria, Hungary, and the United Kingdom.
A ten-coin program issued by the Royal Spanish Mint to mark the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States, and to put on record the decisive part Spain played in it — from the campaigns of Bernardo de Gálvez on the Gulf Coast to the Spanish milled dollar that became the model for the first American dollar. Three coins were released in 2025 and seven in 2026.
Obverse Description
Royal commissioner Francisco de Saavedra y Sangronis, who helped drive the British from the Gulf of Mexico alongside Gálvez and planned the Franco-Spanish offensive against Jamaica. His greatest feat was raising, in record time, the funds that paid for the Yorktown operation.
Reverse Description
The surrender of Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown, Virginia, in 1781 — made possible by Saavedra’s financing and by the operations of Washington, Rochambeau and de Grasse.
