Founded as the Agra Bank in 1833 in Agra, India, the bank was renamed the Agra and United Service Bank Limited (AUS) in 1837. It obtained a royal charter in 1857, opened its Hong Kong branch the same year under manager Henry Turner, and issued its first Hong Kong notes in October 1863.
